We have compiled a list of the top 5 things to do at Newhaven Fort this Father’s Day to ensure Dad and Granddad have the best day possible. We can’t wait to try out number 4!

1. Explore the tunnels

Descend into the Caponier and weave through the system of tunnels beneath the fortification. They were once used as magazines to store gunpowder and shells but now evoke an eerie sensation as you explore the echoing rooms.

2. Learn about the World Wars and history of the area in our exhibitions

Newhaven Fort has lots of exhibitions housed in the arches of the 19th century building. From The Lost Fort where you’ll discover the archaeological history of the local area to the exhibitions that give a sense of what life was like during two World Wars, at home and on the front line.

3. Enjoy lunch and a cream tea in the café

Sit back and relax in our 1940’s tearoom and enjoy lunch or a cream tea this Father’s Day! There is a selection of sandwiches and cakes as well as other choices, all of which use locally sourced produce.

4. Join the World Cup Challenge

The Fort is celebrating the World Cup with a challenge for the whole family to get involved. Will you be able to find the flags hidden around the Fort of all the countries involved in the competition?

5. Book tickets for one of the upcoming events

If you’re stuck for a Father’s Day gift idea why not book tickets for one of the many events happening over the summer at Newhaven Fort? Join a theatrical ghost walk and learn about the old visitors who still haunt the Fort today; treat Dad to tickets to the Music Hall and Variety spectacular, or for the petrol head Fathers there is the Classics On Parade which sees the Southern Classics Club display their prized possessions on the Parade Ground of Newhaven Fort.
