St. George's Day Makes Poverty History

On the afternoon of Sunday 23rd April, Newhaven Fort is hosting a St George’s Day event organised by local Explorers, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers.

At 14:30 a parade will begin from outside the Fort entrance with flag bearers and the Heathfield Silver Band to mark both St. George’s Day and ‘Make Poverty History’.

There will be a presentation on ‘FairTrade’ by Ruth O’Keefe followed by performances of Hymns and of the poverty song by the Scout groups and their leaders.

Newhaven Fort Visitor Services Officer, Minna Robertson said,

“This is a wonderful opportunity for the different groups to come together and mark St. George’s Day. What is more, it’s a bonus for visitors to Newhaven Fort to see the parade with all the flags flying”

Of course, the display will be taking place in addition to the many wonderful, permanent displays and interesting things to see and do at Newhaven Fort and, don’t forget, the fantastic on-site café serving yummy lunches and naughty treats, plus our pocket-money-priced gift shop. Opening times are 10.30am - 6pm (last entry 5pm).
