Newhaven Fort opens for 2010
Award winning visitor attraction Newhaven Fort will be re-opening its doors to the public on Monday 1st March, fresh for the 2010 season.
Open from 10am-6pm Newhaven Fort offers visitors the chance to enjoy interactive wartime displays and exhibits, fascinating architecture and breathtaking clifftop views of the Sussex coastline.
2010 is set to be a busy year with the 70th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation and the Battle of Britain taking place. To commemorate these momentous events in British history, Newhaven Fort is staging a number of special events and unique exhibitions throughout the year.
The Battle of France and the subsequent evacuation of the British Expeditionary Force from Dunkirk are explored in the newly extended exhibition 'From Declaration to Disaster'. The exhibition features hundreds of original artefacts, images and documents from the period and is one of the largest collections in the world on public display.
A series of 70th anniversary commemorative special events will also take place including a programme of lectures, 1940’s themed live jazz evenings, a Battle of Britain Ball and the highlight of our annual calendar, Battle of Britain Day on 12th September.
In addition Newhaven Fort will be hosting an extensive programme of special events throughout the year, from open-air theatre and live music to military re-enactments and children’s activities, during the school holidays.
