Hair-raising Halloween Half Term Fun at Newhaven Fort

Dust off your broomsticks and iron your wizard capes, because Newhaven Fort is getting ready for toads, spooky film screenings, make-your-own craft workshops and witches’ brew this Halloween.

Starting on Monday 26th October and running until Saturday 31st October, Newhaven Fort has so much to offer the whole family this half term. There are questions to answer and riddles to solve in the spine chilling depths of the underground tunnels, with a scary scarecrow quiz trail, running daily.

For true Halloween fun, there will be make-your-own spooky treat workshops throughout the day on Thursday 29th October*.

For the really brave, the ever popular Zoolab* will be coming to Newhaven Fort on Friday 30th to show visitors snakes, snails, tarantulas, giant millipedes, toads, and even cockroaches! Session times are 13:30 and 14:30 (please call to reserve a place).

Whilst there, and assuming the children aren’t developing their ghost hunting skills, brushing up on their history, or playing in the adventure playground for the under 12’s, why not enjoy a well earned refreshment in the Searchlight Café – where you’ll find a full range of wholesome snacks or even a special spooky witches’ brew… if you dare!

New for 2009 – Newhaven Fort in conjunction with Filmspot will be presenting two horror film screenings on Saturday 31st October. An afternoon screening of the classic Frankenstein (1931) [PG] will be shown at 2pm* - free to Newhaven Fort ticket holders. In the evening, a screening of The Devil’s Backbone (2001) [certificate 15] will be shown at 7pm, tickets £5.50 per person by calling 07736 451190.

Notes to Editor:

Newhaven Fort is an award-winning visitor attraction, open to the public from March to October. The fort is owned and operated by Lewes District Council and offers visitors the opportunity to experience a day out with a difference, as they step into wartime Britain and follow in the footsteps of people who lived through the first and second World Wars. The massive walls, ramparts, tunnels and gun emplacements all fire the imagination, and the clifftop location offers stunning, far-reaching views across Seaford Bay, Newhaven Port and the English Channel.
