On Saturday 1st March, the 130 year-old, iron-clad doors of Newhaven Fort will be unbolted and swung open with great anticipation to welcome the first visitors of the season.
The winter months have seen the building of new exhibits, a complete management office move and the scheduling of some great special events for 2008.
Over the coming weeks, Newhaven Fort will host a number of different events including a Morris Minor Rally with over 40, pre-war vehicles dating back to the 1930s on Sunday 2nd March, and a Women’s Land Army lecture on Sunday 9th March. Also scheduled for the 2008 season is an open-air theatre performance by Oddsocks Productions, Easter and Halloween trails & workshops, a 1940s Jazz night, vintage car & motorbike rallies and the Battle of Britain Day with memorial flight fly past and jive dancers. “We’re very excited about the 2008 season and the whole Fort team has been working extremely hard to make sure it gets off to a great start. We’re spring-cleaned & freshly painted, have new displays and a great programme of events, offering something for all members of the family. We just need our visitors, so roll on Saturday 1st!”
Newhaven Fort has also launched a new-look website this month with its very own Blog page and other fab features. For information on anything to do with Newhaven Fort – even on how you can become a volunteer, or to book a Children’s Birthday Party – simply log on to http://www.newhavenfort.org.uk/.

Note to Editor:
Newhaven Fort is an award-winning visitor attraction, open to the public from March to October. The fort offers visitors the opportunity to experience a day out with a difference, as they step into wartime Britain and follow in the footsteps of people who lived through the first and second World Wars. The massive walls, ramparts, tunnels and gun emplacements all fire the imagination, and the clifftop location offers stunning, far-reaching views across Seaford Bay, Newhaven Port and the English Channel.
Owned and operated by Lewes District Council, Newhaven Fort is open daily from 10.30am until 6.00pm (or dusk, if earlier). http://www.newhavenfort.org.uk/
